2048 Number Match is a connection-based number puzzle developed by Inlogic Software. The game uses the familiar doubling sequence of 2, 4, 8, 16, and beyond, but it does not move every tile simultaneously like classic 2048.
Instead, you draw a path across a 5-by-7 board and combine compatible neighboring tiles. Every completed chain removes several blocks, creates a larger number, and causes new tiles to fall into the empty spaces. The objective is to keep finding valid connections while increasing your score and highest tile.
Start the chain with at least two matching tiles, then continue through tiles with the same value or the next larger value in the doubling sequence. For example, 2 → 2 → 4 → 4 → 8 forms a valid path, while 2 → 4 cannot begin a chain because the first two tiles must match.
You can connect neighboring tiles horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. This allows the path to bend across different rows and columns while collecting several compatible numbers. Each tile can only be selected once unless you drag back to remove the previous step.
The projected result appears above the board as you extend the path. Use this preview to check the outcome before releasing. When the connection is complete, the selected values merge, the result remains at the final position, and new blocks fall from above to refill the board.
You do not have to complete a chain immediately. If you drag back to the previous tile, the latest selection is removed from the path. This lets you correct a mistake or explore a different route without losing the whole chain.
Release the mouse button or lift your finger only when you are satisfied with the selected numbers.
The values of every selected tile are added together. The game then converts that total into the next available number in the doubling sequence.

The new tile appears in the position of the final block in your path. All earlier tiles in the chain disappear, and their columns are refilled from above. The total value of the selected chain is also added to your score.
Because the result remains on the last selected square, the direction of your path matters. Ending near another compatible number can create an immediate follow-up opportunity.
The board initially uses relatively low values, including 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32. As you create stronger tiles, higher values enter the game and expand the available number range.
The largest tile currently on the board is visually highlighted, making it easier to track your progress. The game can continue beyond 2048 into much larger values, so reaching 2048 is an important milestone rather than the final limit.
As the number range grows, some low-value blocks are eventually removed. This prevents the board from remaining filled with weak numbers and shifts the challenge toward building increasingly valuable chains.
Two power-ups provide direct ways to change a difficult layout. They require coins, so they are most useful when an ordinary merge cannot solve the problem.
The Swap power-up allows you to exchange the positions of two selected blocks. Use it to bring identical values together, prepare the first pair of a new chain, or move a valuable tile toward a more useful area.
A good swap should create more than one possible connection. Exchanging two tiles for a single short merge may not provide enough long-term value.
The Break power-up removes a selected block from the grid. The value of that block is added to your score, and a new tile falls into the empty space.
Break is useful for removing an isolated number that interrupts several possible paths. It can also change an entire column and reveal a new matching pair after the remaining tiles fall.
A long chain usually produces a valuable result, but its ending position is just as important as its length. Before releasing, check which numbers will remain around the final tile.
A new chain can only begin with two equal neighboring tiles. If the board contains no matching pair horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, the run ends.
For this reason, avoid using every available pair in one area without checking the rest of the board. Preserving another matching pair gives you a safe starting point for the following move.
When several identical tiles are available, include them before moving to the next doubled value. A route such as 4 → 4 → 4 → 8 collects more value than ending the connection after the first pair.
However, do not force a longer path if it places the result in an isolated corner. A slightly shorter chain can be better when it creates a strong follow-up merge.
