A 2048 Puzzle Built Around Card Stacks

Merge Royal 2048 combines the number-doubling rule of 2048 with the organized layout of a card game. Rather than swiping every tile across a square grid, you move individual numbered cards between four vertical stacks.

The objective is to place two equal cards together and create a card with twice their value. Two 4 cards become an 8, two 8 cards produce a 16, and the sequence continues with increasingly valuable cards. Each successful combination contributes to the level target displayed above the board.

Developed by Balram Thakur, the game uses a simple drag-and-drop system, but the limited arrangement of the stacks makes every decision important. A useful merge can open the board, while a poorly positioned card may separate matching values and make future combinations harder to complete.

How to Play Merge Royal 2048

Match Cards With Equal Values

Select an available card and drag it onto another card showing the same number. When the two cards meet, they merge into one higher-value card and free some space on the board.

Cards with different numbers cannot be combined. Before releasing a card, check both its value and its destination. Moving it to the wrong stack may leave it sitting above a card you will need later.

The basic rule is easy to remember:

2 + 2 creates 4
4 + 4 creates 8
8 + 8 creates 16
16 + 16 creates 32

Higher cards require several earlier combinations, so progress depends on how well you organize the smaller values.

Fill the Target Meter

Every level gives you a target to complete. Merges add progress toward that goal, and larger combinations make a greater contribution than small ones. Once the required amount is reached, you can advance to the next challenge.

This structure changes how you should approach the board. Creating the largest possible card remains valuable, but the immediate objective is to reach the current target without losing control of the stacks. A move that earns progress and leaves two useful values close together is often stronger than one that produces a single isolated card.

Why Card Position Matters

The four-stack layout creates the main strategic challenge. Matching cards are only useful when you can bring them together, so their location matters as much as their number.

Placing unrelated values in the same area can make the board difficult to reorganize. For example, a low-value card may interrupt a pair you were preparing or occupy the stack needed for the next merge. As the board becomes busier, these small placement mistakes can restrict your available choices.

Try to give each move two purposes. The first is to complete an immediate merge. The second is to leave the resulting card near another value that can support the next combination. This approach creates a more organized board and makes consecutive merges easier to prepare.

Large cards also need careful positioning. They take more moves to create, and scattering them across separate stacks can slow your progress. Keeping related values within reach reduces unnecessary movement and protects the space needed to continue building.

Build Combos Without Blocking the Board

A strong combo is prepared across several moves. Instead of matching the first available pair immediately, look at the other cards around it and consider where the new value will appear.

Suppose you already have an 8 close to two 4 cards. Combining the 4s in the correct position creates another 8, allowing you to follow with an 8 + 8 merge. This sequence produces a 16 while clearing more room than two unrelated moves.

Use these practical habits to maintain a stable board:

Keep matching values within nearby or accessible stacks.
Prepare the destination before creating a higher-value card.
Avoid covering a useful card with several unrelated numbers.
Use small merges to clear space instead of letting low cards accumulate.
Check where the merged card will remain before releasing your move.
Protect flexible stacks that still provide several possible combinations.

You do not need to create a long chain on every turn. When the layout becomes difficult, completing a simple merge that restores space may be more useful than forcing an ambitious combination.

Left mouse button: Click and hold a numbered card.
Drag: Move the selected card toward another stack.
Release: Drop it onto a card with the same value to merge them.

Mobile or Tablet

Touch and hold: Select a card.
Drag: Move the card across the board.
