About 2048 Glitched

2048 Glitched takes the familiar number-merging puzzle through three increasingly chaotic phases. The board begins as a standard 2D grid, expands into a 4×4×4 structure, and eventually introduces Rubik’s Cube-style movement. Each phase changes how you organize tiles, assess space, and prepare combinations.

Created for UM Game Jam 2026, the game interprets “Losing Control” through digital corruption. Progress gradually destabilizes the board, camera, audio, and visual presentation.

The basic rule remains familiar: move equal tiles together to create a higher value. However, later phases demand stronger spatial awareness because numbers may occupy different layers or move through rotating sections of a cube.

How To Play

Phase 1: Classic 2D Board

The game starts on a 4×4 grid. Every input moves all available tiles in one direction, while identical values merge upon contact.

This phase rewards an organized corner strategy. Keeping the largest tile in a fixed area and arranging smaller values around it helps preserve space before the board changes form.

Phase 2: 3D Grid

Reaching the selected transition number transforms the board into a 4×4×4 grid containing 64 cube positions. Tiles can now occupy different depths, making some combinations difficult to see from a single angle.

Rotate and zoom the camera before moving. A merge that appears safe from the front may block an important sequence on another layer.

Phase 3: Rubik’s Cube Mode

The final phase replaces whole-board swipes with slice rotations. Dragging a section of the cube moves the tiles within that layer and can create new merges.

Each rotation affects several positions at once. Plan beyond the nearest match and consider where every moved tile will land.

Special Tiles And Pets

Advanced phases introduce effects that can either clear space or disrupt your structure:

• Bomb Tile: Clears a row in the direction of the merge.
• X2 Tile: Doubles the value of the tile it contacts.
• ÷2 Tile: Halves the contacted tile’s value.
• Frozen Tile: Remains locked until it meets another tile with the same number.

Pet companions may shoot X2 or ÷2 projectiles and can occasionally eat a random tile. Their actions may break a planned chain, but removing a tile can also create useful space. When active, pets appear only on the 2D board.

The camera may also shift orientation for ten seconds. During this effect, pause briefly and confirm the board’s direction before making another move.

Controls

2D Mode

• Use WASD, the arrow keys, or swipe gestures to move tiles.

3D Mode

• Use WASD to shift blocks.
• Drag with the left mouse button or use the arrow controls to rotate the camera.
• Use the scroll wheel to zoom.

Rubik’s Cube Mode

• Click and drag a cube slice to rotate it and move its tiles.
• Drag from the side or use the arrow controls to adjust the camera.
• Use the scroll wheel to zoom.

2048 Glitched preserves the logic of classic 2048 while turning board management into a layered spatial puzzle. Consistent play depends on careful organization, camera control, and adapting to unexpected changes.
